Our PLTW Story
Berrien Springs Public Schools started using the PLTW curriculum during the 2014-15 school year. Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Biomedical Science were offered for the HS students; Science of Technology, Medical Detectives, Design and Modeling, and Automation and Robotics were offered for the MS students.
Students and parents asked for a summer program so students could continue to learn over the summer. STEM Summer Camp was born! 80 students in grades K-8 enjoyed three weeks of designing, constructing, coding, problem-solving, and critical thinking at no cost to the families.
The district has increased its PLTW course offerings during the 2015-16 school year by adding: Principles of Engineering, Human Body Systems, Computer and Software Engineering, Green Architecture, and the elementary Launch program.
The district expanded the Elementary Launch program for all third through fifth grade students in 2016 - 2017 school year.
The goal for 2017-18 is full integration of PLTW in grades K-12.
